Drummer Wanted : Dr. F. will be taking a bit of a break for the time being while we look for a new drummer. Now, we're pretty open-minded as to who that could be but we do need someone who's prepared to gig around Fukuoka and out-of-town and have their own passport for possible gigs abroad (i.e. not in Japan.) Step up and introduce yourself ! Contact : tim@drfunkinstein.net

Live Report from Concert On The Rock 2006 ! Well, they did it again. Another absolute triumph from the boys and girls in Nakatsu, Oita. More bands, more people, more BEER, more RAWK than ever before. HUGE thanks to Eoin, Rachel and Jon for yet again putting on such a superb event. Head on over to the COTR website for a look at some more piccies from the two days (I think they're work/wife/girlfriend friendly) and see what you were missing ! We just don't have anything this good in Fukuoka so do yourselves a favour and GET YOUR ASSES DOWN THERE NEXT YEAR !!!

13th Feb. 2006

New CD !!! Super big yaaaaay ! After far more buggering around than can even be vaguely justified we now have our 2nd mini album "Anything For Money" available to YOU (yes, YOU !) for the paltry sum of ¥1000 (the same price as two beers !) And about f*#king time too, quite frankly. But bitching aside, it really is very jolly good and for your two beers worth you get 4 songs (+ a special secret recording of a timeless Japanese classic at the end !) lovingly recorded and mastered by our "special friend" Sou Sugino, who for those COOL ENOUGH TO HANG AROUND WITH US AND BE IN THE KNOW also did our last one. For a quick listen, scroll down this page and click on the song title links on the left. No, you don't get any whole songs so you'll just have to DAMN WELL BUY ONE. Come to our gigs, buy us beer and we might just even give you a free one for that special individual in your life. If you're female and you feel like performing any "extra little services" for us we might even let you into our EXCLUSIVE INNER CIRCLE. But we digress.

7th Feb. 2006

A message from Aoki : Everybody ! Thank you very much for coming to our last gig. I've started with Dr. Funkinstein again ! Please stay with us a bit more. Please be good/loyal to Dr. Funkinstein forever !

(Aren't direct translations wonderful ?)

New Year is Opening Congratulations ! ... as they say in this part of the world. A bit late, I know, but our hangovers have taken that much longer to go away. Sorry ! Our New Year's resolutions are to drink more beer and find stupider costumes to dress up in. May as well go for resolutions you stand a cat's chance in hell of keeping, eh ?

29th Nov. 2005

Old Face !! : He's back ! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the ramen shop.... we're more than happy to welcome back to the Dr. F. ranks our original heavy-hitter, Taketoshi Aoki ! Aoki made his live re-debut with us at the Tropicoco Halloween party last month (which rocked, needless to say.) Huge thanks once again to Mikio Yamabe for helping us out so outrageously on the drums this year too. God knows he plays better than we'll ever deserve. You should hear him on the new recordings : He is the master ! Anyhoo, take a look at Aoki's Page for details of his more recent deeds of perversion. (Not really. He doesn't even drink that much.)

20th Sept. 2005

Recording !!! : Yes !! Dr. Funkinstein are currently back in the studio recording our second mini-album, tentatively titled "Anything For Money". Once again, our great friend and metalhead Sou Sugino is in the engineering chair and we promise it will be LOUDER, HEAVIER and MORE OFFENSIVE than before and will TOTALLY RAWK !! Yaaaaay !!!

Site Updates ! : We've added some new cool stuff to the site. You can now join our e-mailing list by going to the Contact Page and submitting your e-mail address. Also, check out the two live videos of the songs "Peace Off" and "Keep Talking" at the bottom of the Music Page. We dug these out of our archives recently and were shot at Grand Town, featuring the original Dr, F. line-up !

26th May 2005

Good grief, can't believe we've left it this long for an update ! Not good at all ! It means we've been very busy having lots of LOUD, OBNOXIOUS and DEBAUCHEROUS FUN though, and we have proof ! Here we go then .......

Live Report ! Two, in fact ! First up, super-huge thanks to everyone who turned out to our joint Voodoo Lounge event with FukuokaLive.com. (Apr. 29th.) Dr. F. James Heneghan, Cut Flowers, DJ Excelle and DJ Heartbreaker all TOTALLY ROCKED and, what with there being 160-odd people there, we made lots of new friends who TOTALLY ROCKED all night ! Needless to say, we'll be organising more stuff with FL in the future, which will TOTALLY ROCK YOUR FACE !!!

Next, Concert On The Rock 2 (May 14th/15th) at Hachimen Sansou, Oita. Ooooooh, we had some fun with that one !! 2 days of live music, fun and frollicking out in the mountains, where no one can see what you're really up to !! (especially when it gets dark !!) Super big hugs and kisses to Rich Lee and the gang for putting so much effort into a great weekend of shows and to everyone who had to suffer the truly appalling sight of me and Clay in our Japanese schoolgirl sailor uniforms (Yes, you read correctly. Have a look at the photo opposite and others littering this site !) Not to mention the stage debut of Judy the Dutch Wife, our new Dr. F. mascot ! And of course, all and sundry TOTALLY ROCKED !!

25th March 2005

New Guy !!! Well, once again it's all-change in the Dr. F. camp but this time it's most definitely for the better as we welcome to the family our new, super-duper drummer, Mikio Yamabe !!! He's an absolute boon and we really feel the band has stepped up a good few notches with him on board. He can play really fast AND do the twirly stick thing and everything. What a guy ! We're going to be recording and gigging with Miki very soon.

We also owe tons of thanks to Junji Hasaba for helping us out for the last six months too. He did a fantastic job and will be filling the drum chair of a number of other Fukuoka bands over the time to come (next, L.H. Volume Lunch). He's in demand !

3rd Feb. 2005

Live Report ! Thank you thank you thank you !!! ...to everyone who turned out to our special weekend of fundraising gigs for Grand Town (see below). All the bands were absolutely superb, with special thanks to Trouble Tribe Japan for coming all the way from Osaka to do their thang. Also thanks to my new friend Roald Kern for having me on his radio show (which is on every Thurs. morning, 10:00-12:00am on Freewave 77.7FM, usually hosted by James Danatzis) to help promote the whole event. Local and national magazines Japanzine, Fukuoka Now and City Joho Fukuoka as well as websites Fukuoka Live and Kyushu Connection featured us over December-January, providing vital coverage too. Lots of people came, lots of people drank which meant that, most importantly, we made a s*&%load of money for Grand Town, which is what it was all about. Good job everybody !! By the way, Toshi will be booking further gigs at ACB Buzz in the future until he finds new premises for Grand Town so do keep your eyes on their gig guide and go along to support. You are guaranteed a good time ! Once again, thank you sooooo much !!!

Love,

Tim

20th Dec. 2004

By now, we’re sure everyone will have heard about what has happened to our favourite Fukuoka live venue, Grand Town, and the trouble that owner Toshi is in. We want to help get Grand Town back on its feet again so we’ve organized a special 2-day live event with no less than 12 bands (!!!) at ACB Buzz, Tenjin, Fukuoka, to raise money which will all be donated to Grand Town.

This is not for the bands, this is ONLY to raise money for Grand Town so ALL support will be greatly appreciated ! Thanks !

2nd Dec. 2004

Download Dr. Funkinstein for free !!! We need to ask a big favour of you : Dr. Funkinstein has a free MP3 of our song "My Wife" (it's really called "Dutch Wife" but that's rude in Japanese so they've made us change it but never mind) available for downloading at this site : www.artist-debut.net. If you download it we'll enter their chart and if enough people do that we could get a recording contract from them ! Yes, this is totally true !!! So, as you can see, we're really really really excited at this prospect but we really need your help. Here's what we'd like you to do :

Go to www.artist-debut.net. It's all in Japanese but don't be put off .Click on “サーチ” ( = “search”, on the top navigation bar, 2nd from right) then input Dr.Funkinstein (exactly like this, with capitals, period and no space, otherwise it won’t find it) Click on either "Streaming" or "Download" and you'll get our song. "Streaming" will do, as to be able to download the song onto your Hard Drive you'll need to register as a member. Click here for the instructions in English. Registering as a member is best as it counts for more in their chart.

That's it ! Honestly, all this will be sooooooooo much appreciated and we'll love you forever, not to mention get you a drink next time we see you ! Thank you thank you thank you in advance !

8th Nov. 2004

Live Report ! Woohoo ! Now we're having fun !! We're very happy to tell you that your friendly neighbourhood Dr. Funkinstein is having a superb time regularly playing habitually debaucherous weekends out of our hometown Fukuoka. Nakatsu rocks dudes and dudettes ! It's official ! Big hugs and kisses to Rich Lee, Tres, Rachel et al for organising 'A Night in Nakatsu' (see Live page) and to our Fukuoka posse (Krista, Julie, Paula... ) for turning out and partying with us down there. Stay tuned for more of Rich's events down that neck of the woods and don't miss out on a f*#@ing good time !

Oh, and for those disappointed with the recent USA presidential election result, have a look at this site : www.whitehouse.org

3rd Oct. 2004

Live Report ! We've just come back from a fantastic time playing in Osaka, the first time we've played outside of Fukuoka ! Huge thanks to Trouble Tribe Japan and all their people who turned up, not to mention Tom at The Blarney Stone for putting up with us being too loud and obnoxiuos. It was Junji's first gig with us and he played great. We then partied the rest of the night, got wasted, went love hotel and prostitute spotting in Juso and woke up outrageously hungover the next day before catching the shinkansen back to Fukuoka. Can't wait to go back and do it all again !

29th Sept. 2004

Live Report : Bye Bye Aoki ! Our last gig was very sadly Taketoshi Aoki's (our drummer) last. Nobody wanted him to leave but work pressures have left him with very little time to play with the band or tour properly. Still, his last gig with us (7th Aug. at Grand Town) was an absolute blast and just about everybody we know turned up to give him a great send off. Thank you all for that ! We'll keep you posted of any bands or music he's involved with in the future when he can.

In the meantime, we're reeeaaaally happy to welcome our new drummer, Junji Hasaba, to the Funkinstein Family ! Junji's first gig with us will be at The Blarney Stone in Osaka on Oct. 2nd (Sat.) so wish us luck !

24th May 2004

Site Update : Japanese ! Each page on this site now has a "parallel" Japanese translation page. All you budding linguists click on the Japanese flag at the top of your screen and have a browse. A free CD to the first person to tell us who the Japanese girl is behind the flag.

ホームページのアップデート : やったあ!このホームページの日本語版がやっとできました!ページの日本の国旗をクリックして見てください。(クリックしたときに見れる女の子の名前がわかった人はメールください。CDのプレゼントがあるよ。)

Live report : Another great time had by all at our gig in Saga on 2004.5.15. Hats off and hearty thanks to Takeru Yamoto of Channel 80 for putting on such a great event.

20th April 2004

Listen to da music ! Yes ! We've got our act together and put some music files onto this site ! Head on over to the Music page and have a listen to some clips of the songs on our CD.

....And make your life complete by signing our guestbook on the Contact page.

2nd April 2004

Live Report ! Hafta say we had a blast of a gig at CB last Thursday courtesy of Soulfull Bomber and also featuring the excellent YKZ on tour from Tokyo. Thanks to everyone who turned up and put up with all our usual crap.

Site Updates ! Check 'em out ! Clay's page has some new links to his dubiously murky past. Also the Links page has more of our friends' bands and stuff.

2nd March 2004

Success ! The website is at last finished ! Yeah, ok, ok, we realise there's not much to look at right now but we're working on it. Drop in regularly as we'll be adding DAMN EXCITING STUFF to the links at the top of this page such as NEW PAGES and PHOTOS and the all important live schedule, which you MUST look at and attend on pain of HORRIBLE AND UNTIMELY DEATH.
